HENDERSON, Nev. (February 16, 2020) – A Sunday doubleheader ended with another sweep for the College of Southern Nevada baseball team.
The Coyotes again swept Prairie Baseball Academy and Okanagan College, earning an 11-1 win over Prairie and a 5-3 victory over Okanagan. The wins boost CSN's overall record to 9-7.
Southern Nevada will play Prairie Baseball Academy again on Tuesday, beginning with a scheduled start at 6:00 p.m.
Southern Nevada 11, Prairie 1: A two-run
Jack Pineda home run keyed CSN to a victory.
Pineda hit his home run in the third inning, helping the Coyotes to a 9-1 lead.
Johnny Cuevas tied the game in the second inning on an RBI single, with
DJ Stephens hitting a two-run single later in the inning to give CSN a lead it never surrendered.
In a game that only went five innings, Coyotes pitcher
Jack Sellinger earned a victory, throwing five innings and surrendering just one run while striking out four batters.
Southern Nevada 5, Okanagan 3: Johnny Cuevas hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning, sending CSN to a lead and then on to an eventual victory.
Trailing 3-1, Cuevas cleared the bases to help the Coyotes overcome an early 3-0 deficit. Joey Walls also added a run in the fifth inning.
Garrett Clarke earned the pitching victory, throwing seven innings and striking out three runs. Nick Thompson earned the save over two innings, striking out three runs.
