HENDERSON, Nev. (February 18, 2020) – Two big early innings led to an impressive win for the College of Southern Nevada baseball team Tuesday.
The Coyotes picked up a 20-7 win over Prairie Baseball Academy in a single game at Morse Stadium. CSN scored 12 runs in the first three innings, powering to 10-7 overall with the win.
Small-ball ruled the day early for Southern Nevada, with a Joey Walls RBI walk helping CSN to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. The Coyotes added to the advantage later in the game with a two-run
Jack Pineda triple.
Leading 9-2 in the third inning,
Johnny Cuevas hit a three-run RBI double to left-center to lift Southern Nevada to a 12-2 lead. The knockout punch in the game came in the fifth inning as
Andrew Hauck hit a grand-slam home run to boost CSN's lead to 20-5.
Hauck was 1-for-1 as a pinch-hitter, while
Cole Schaefer and
Nate Freimuth both went 2-of-2 in the game. Cuevas and Hauck combined for 7 RBI's.
Jamin Kalaola earned the pitching victory, pitching four innings while surrendering just two runs.
Austin Raleigh and Nick Thompson both combined in relief appearances.
Southern Nevada will Prairie Baseball Academy again on Wednesday, with a scheduled start of 6:00 p.m. at Morse Stadium.
