HENDERSON, Nev. (February 21, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball team responded from a disappointing loss on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep on Friday.
Playing two games in Friday's action in the 'Coyote Slugout – Presented by Sunset Station Hotel and Casino', CSN downed Community Christian College and Okanagan College by margins of 13-3 and 18-2, respectively. Southern Nevada's overall record is now 13-8 with the wins.
Southern Nevada will close the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday against Community Christian College. The game will be played at Morse Stadium.
Southern Nevada 13, Community Christian 3: A fast start lifted the Coyotes to a strong win.
Southern Nevada led 7-0 after the third inning, utilizing an
Austin Plante RBI double in the first inning to light the offensive fire. Joey Walls hit a two-RBI single in the second inning to up CSN's lead to 4-0.
Community Christian cut the deficit to 7-3 in the fourth inning but CSN responded, thanks to a
Kyle Turner two-run triple that reestablished a commanding Coyotes margin. Turner led CSN with a trio of RBI's.
Austin Plante led Southern Nevada at the plate, going 3-of-3 and scoring 3 runs.
Jack Sellinger earned the pitching win for Southern Nevada, striking out 3 while allowing 3 runs.
Southern Nevada 18, Okanagan 2: A 10-run inning ruled the game in a run-rule victory for the Coyotes.
It was Okanagan who picked up a run in the first inning, with CSN posting four runs in the second inning to take a lead. Joey Walls hit an RBI double in the inning, starting a scoring-fest that ended with 10 runs for Southern Nevada in the third inning.
Austin Plante cleared the bases in the inning with a three-run RBI, with
Cole Schaefer picking up a rare hit-by-pitch RBI. CSN had five players pick up multi-hit games, with catcher
Tony Sortino going 3-of-3 with 3 RBI's.
Johnny Cuevas earned the pitching victory with five strikeouts in four innings of work.
