HENDERSON, Nev. (February 26, 2020) – After an encouraging preseason, the College of Southern Nevada softball team is ready to jump head-first into Scenic West Athletic Conference play this week.

The Lady Coyotes will travel to chilly Twin Falls, Idaho for a conference-opening series against the College of Southern Idaho, with doubleheaders scheduled for Friday and Saturday. CSN went 7-6 in the preseason, including an impressive series of victories in several home tournaments.

Southern Nevada coach Ashley Johnston said the preseason her program had has filled the program full of optimism entering league play.

"We are back to a 0-0 record," she said. " We are looking for a fresh start, however there are things that happened in the preseason that we will use as a learning curve to help up move forward in conference play."

Southern Idaho also had an up-and-down preseason, going 5-5 with four-consecutive losses to end the preseason in a tournament in Alabama. The Golden Eagles finished the 2019 season in second in the Scenic West standings and are annually one of the top programs in the league.

Johnston said her team is ready for the challenges posed by CSI.

" We are looking forward to opening up with CSI," she said. "They (CSI) are always strong competitors and we're excited about the strength at the top of the conference schedule.  I think this weekend will really set the tone for what we will do this spring."

Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday as part of a four-game series. Friday's doubleheader will open at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Saturday's games will be played at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
