HENDERSON, Nev. (February 28, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a flurry, earning wins in a doubleheader Friday.
The Coyotes earned wins of 4-2 and 13-3 in the doubleheader, moving to 3-0 in a conference-opening series with the College of Southern Idaho. The wins boost CSN's overall record to 16-8 and 3-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play the series finale on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Morse Stadium.
Southern Nevada 4, Southern Idaho 2: A quick start helped lift the Coyotes to an opening win.
CSN scored a pair of runs in the first inning, taking a 4-0 lead after the sixth inning while controlling the game. Pitching played a large role in CSN's success, with
Johnny Cuevas allowing just three hits in six innings. Cuevas also struck out six batters in the win.
Tony Sortino led the Coyotes offensively, going 2-of-3 while
Austin Plante went 1-of-2 with an RBI. CSN had six hits.
Southern Nevada 13, Southern Idaho 3: Early runs made sure Southern Nevada had a dominating lead.
The Coyotes posted an early 5-0 lead, stretching the lead to 11-3 after scoring five runs in the fifth inning.
Cole Schaefer led the way offensively, going 2-of-2 with a trio of RBI's.
Dax Fellows scored four runs in the game, going 1-of-2 at the plate.
Chase Silseth pitched a complete game, throwing six innings while striking out 11 Golden Eagles.
