HENDERSON, Nev. (February 6, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada softball program certainly showed its abilities in last week's home tournament, posting a 3-1 record.
The Lady Coyotes will try to maintain that momentum this weekend, traveling to play in the 'Great Western Shootout' event hosted by Arizona Western in Yuma, Ariz. After earning three victories last Friday over Arizona-based schools, CSN certainly has much to be excited about entering the tourney.
Southern Nevada coach
Ashley Johnston said her team is brimming with confidence after the strong showing at home last weekend.
"I thought the team played well this past weekend; pitchers did their job and kept us in ballgames, and the offense put up some runs," she said.
CSN will face off against Glendale Community College and Eastern Arizona College on Thursday, playing five games in the tourney. The Lady Coyotes will tussle with Chandler-Gilbert, Gateway and Arizona Western on Saturday. Southern Nevada has already earned a 7-3 win over Eastern Arizona.
Johnston said this weekend's games will be important for her squad.
"We played Eastern Arizona this past weekend and played well against them but will have to face them again in Arizona," she said. "The two new teams are Chandler-Gilbert and Gateway so we are ready to see what their talent level is. Overall, I am looking for a great weekend where we can continue to put our pieces together of what kind of team we will be at the start of conference."
Southern Nevada's Thursday game with Glendale Community College is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
