YUMA, AZ. (February 6, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team earned a pair of victories in the doubleheader start to a tournament on Thursday.
Playing in the 'Great Western Shootout' in Yuma, Ariz., the Lady Coyotes earned a 5-3 win over Glendale Community College and then a 3-2 victory over Eastern Arizona College. The wins move CSN to 5-3 overall.
Southern Nevada will play a trio of games on Friday, facing off against Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Gateway Community College and Arizona Western.
Southern Nevada 5, Glendale 3: An early CSN home run helped lift the Lady Coyotes to victory.
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning,
Chasity McKean hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. Then, with Glendale leading 2-1, McKean hit an RBI double to open up a lead that Southern Nevada wouldn't surrender.
McKean finished 2-of-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI's, while
Liliana Gutierrez finished 3-of-3 at the plate.
Southern Nevada 3, Eastern Arizona 2: A
Madelynn Kennedy home run provided all the boost CSN needed in the win.
Kennedy hit a three-run home run in her only at-bat of the game in the fifth inning, helping Southern Nevada take a 3-1 lead. Gutierrez went 2-of-3.
