HENDERSON, Nev. (March 4, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team is responding with energy and determination after a tough start to Scenic West Athletic Conference play last weekend.
The Lady Coyotes are hunkered down in practice mode after a four-game sweep at the hands of longtime power Southern Idaho, preparing for their league-opening home series this week with Snow College at Lady Coyote Softball Field. Southern Nevada, who is on a six-game losing streak, will attempt to break their recent skid with a doubleheader with the Lady Badgers on Friday.
CSN coach
Ashley Johnston said her team is focusing on areas of improvement in practice this week.
"Our pitching has to get stronger," she said. "I felt that our offense and defense were manageable this weekend, but the pitching was unacceptable. We were missing our spots, walking too many batters and we gave up the long ball too many times."
The Lady Coyotes will try to regroup against a Snow College program that went 4-0 in the opening weekend against USU Eastern. Snow scored 35 runs in those games, earning run-rule victories in two games.
Johnston said Snow is a formidable opponent.
"Snow is a strong team," she said. "They are coming off a great weekend, so we know we have our hands full. Our pitchers have to keep us in a game and the offense has to come out swinging. It is important that we continue to grow as a team each week."
Southern Nevada and Snow will play a doubleheader on Friday at Lady Coyote Softball Field, with the doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. The duo will play another doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
