HENDERSON, Nev. (January 27, 2021) – The calendar has advanced to a point where games are finally on the schedule for the College of Southern Nevada Athletic Department.
CSN will host it's annual softball Kickoff Classic this weekend along with a three team round robin in baseball, marking the first time that Southern Nevada's teams will compete on the field since March of 2020.
Softball: CSN's softball program will host a multi-team tournament to open the 2021 season, with games beginning on Thursday.
The Lady Coyotes will face off against Arizona Western at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday to open the tournament, followed by a game at 12:00 versus Scenic West rival Snow College. CSN will play a 10:00 a.m. game against Snow on Friday, with a 2:00 p.m. game on Saturday against USU Eastern. All games will be played at Lady Coyote Softball Field.
Southern Nevada coach
Ashley Johnston said the Lady Coyotes are eager for their season openers.
"It's been tough on these ladies since the ending of last spring and I'm excited for them to get to step back out on the field and show everyone what they got," she said. "Our players have worked so hard in the fall and I'm ready for them to show it all off. The team has taken care of business and in the classroom this fall so now it's time to take care of business on the field."
Baseball: The CSN Baseball program will host a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday, facing off in non-conference action against a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference foes.
The Coyotes will play Salt Lake Community College at 1:00 on Saturday at Morse Stadium, followed by a 4:30 p.m. game with Southern Idaho. Sunday's games will feature a 11:30 a.m. start with Southern Idaho, followed by a 2:00 p.m. start with Salt Lake.
CSN coach
Nick Garritano said his team is ready to return to competition after a long layoff.
"Excited would be a huge understatement this week," said Garritano. "Going through such a difficult time last March, getting shut down and now it finally being game week; it's an amazing feeling. I'm sure everyone in the country that is opening up this week has the same feeling. We feel so happy for these kids that have worked so hard and have gone through a living nightmare the past 10 months. Win, lose or tie, just being back on the field against another team will be an incredible feeling."
