HENDERSON, Nev. (January 31, 2021) – The No. 20 College of Southern Nevada baseball team split day two competition of a tournament at Morse Stadium on Sunday.
The Coyotes earned a 9-8 walk-off win over the College of Southern Idaho to start the day, falling 15-3 to Salt Lake Community College in the late game. The split moves CSN to 3-1 on the young season.
Southern Nevada will play a four-game series against Pima Community College next weekend in Tucson, Ariz.
Southern Nevada 9, Southern Idaho 8: A thrilling walk-off win greeted CSN in the day's first game.
Tied at 8-8 in the tenth inning,
Joseph Walls hit a single that scored Austin Plant, sending the Coyotes to the victory. Southern Nevada started slow, trailing 3-0 after the first inning. The Coyotes got on the board in the third inning, scoring four runs on three RBI singles and a passed ball.
CSN took its first lead of the day in the fifth inning as
Justin Olson hit an RBI triple, giving the Coyotes a 5-4 lead. After Southern Idaho came back to take an 8-6 lead, CSN scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-8.
Walls finished the game going 3-of-6 at the plate, while Olson was 2-of-5 with a pair of RBI's.
Trey Frahm was 2-of-3 in the game.
Andrew Hauck earned the pitching victory in relief, allowing two hits in the final 3.2 innings.
Salt Lake 15, Southern Nevada 3: A consistent Bruins offensive attack downed Southern Nevada in game two.
After taking an early 2-1 lead in the second inning, thanks to a
John-Howard Bobo double, Salt Lake scored eight runs over the next four innings to take a commanding 9-1 lead – a lead the Bruins would never look back from. Southern Nevada posted another run in the seventh inning, with
Nate Freimuth scoring on a wild pitch.
Bobo led CSN at the plate, going 1-of-2 with a pair of RBI's.
Johnny Cuevas was 1-of-1 and scored a run.
