HENDERSON, Nev. (February 19, 2021) - The College of Southern Nevada softball team split a day one doubleheader to open a preseason tournament.

The Lady Coyotes, opening the 'SWAC Preseason Tournament' at home, lost a 2-1 decision to Southern Idaho before closing the day with a mammoth 24-1 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College. The split sets Southern Nevada's overall record at 4-7.

CSN will play another doubleheader on Saturday, facing off against Salt Lake Community College and Colorado Northwestern Community College.

Southern Nevada 24, Colorado Northwestern 1: An offensive eruption lifted CSN to a win in the day's second game.

The Lady Coyotes posted runs in each of the five innings in the run-rule victory, leading 10-0 after the second inning.
Bailey Pepper hit RBI doubles in both the first and second innings to help key CSN.

Liliana Gutierrez hit a two-run home run in the third inning, while
Kayley Cole also hit a solo home run. Carla La ros hit a pinch-hit home run in the fifth inning.

Cole finished 4-of-5 at the plate, scoring 5 runs. Gutierrez had a team-high 6 RBI's, going 3-of-4. Amber Trivis earned the pitching win.Â

Southern Idaho 2, Southern Nevada 1: CSN took an early lead but was unable to hold on in a tight loss.

Southern Nevada took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, scoring on a Hannah Meari RBI single. CSI would respond with two runs to close out the game, scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.Â

Gutierrez and Kendall Menk both went 2-of-3 at the plate for CSN.Â
