HENDERSON, Nev. (February 20, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team split a doubleheader in a home preseason tournament Saturday.
Hosting day two action in the 'SWAC Preseason' tourney, the Lady Coyotes earned a 39-8 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College in the day's second game and lost an 8-5 decision early in the day to Salt Lake Community College. The results level CSN's overall record at 5-8.
Southern Nevada will close the tournament on Sunday, playing a doubleheader against the College of Southern Idaho and No. 6 Salt Lake Community College.
Southern Nevada 39, Colorado Northwestern 8: Monstrous offensive numbers told the story in CSN's game two victory.
Every starting position player finished with a hit in the game, with CSN's offense posting 17 runs in the third inning. Another statistic from the game – 18 CSN batters went to the plate in the second inning, scoring 15 runs.
Salt Lake 8, Southern Nevada 5: A strong start for Southern Nevada turned into a late loss for the Lady Coyotes.
CSN jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Lady Coyotes utilized a
Madelynn Kennedy RBI single, along with a series of SLCC defensive miscues to take a 4-0 lead. CSN would boost the lead in the third inning thanks to a
Liliana Gutierrez solo home run. The Lady Coyotes would carry a 5-2 lead into the final inning before Salt Lake scored six runs to get the comeback victory.
Kennedy finished 2-of-4 at the plate for CSN.
