HENDERSON, Nev. (February 27, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team propelled through the final day of the 'Coyote Round Up', earning a pair of strong wins.
For the second straight day, CSN earned a win over No. 6 Arizona Western, winning 9-4. The Lady Coyotes also picked up a 7-4 win over Eastern Arizona College in game two, setting CSN's overall record at 10-9.
Southern Nevada will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play next weekend, traveling to play at the College of Southern Idaho.
Southern Nevada 9, Arizona Western 4: A fast start lifted the Lady Coyotes to a victory over nationally-ranked Arizona Western.
Caitlin Covington opened the scoring in the first inning on a single that led to an unearned run, while
Bailey Pepper hit an RBI single. Covington later added a three-run home run in the second inning to up CSN's lead to 6-0.
Arizona Western responded to cut the deficit to 6-2 before
Liliana Gutierrez added a solo home run in the fifth inning. Covington later added an RBI single in the sixth inning.
Covington finished a perfect 4-of-4 in the game, batting in four runs.
Amber Triviso earned the pitching win, throwing a complete game while striking out four batters.
Southern Nevada 7, Eastern Arizona 4: A battle of momentum ended with the Lady Coyotes finishing off the tournament sweep.
Kayley Cole scored the game's first run on a fielder's choice, while
Chasity McKean hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to give CSN a 4-3 lead.
Caitlin Covington continued her role through the tournament, hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning.
McKean finished 3-of-3 at the plate, while Pepper went 2-of-4. Triviso earned her second win of the day, pitching 2.2 innings of relief and allowing a run in her time.
