TWIN FALLS, ID. (March 5, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team was swept in its first doubleheader in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Coyotes, playing at the College of Southern Idaho, lost a 6-5 decision in game one before responding with a 17-11 loss in game two. The day's results level CSN at 10-11 and 0-2 in Scenic West play.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play another doubleheader on Saturday.
Southern Idaho 6, Southern Nevada 5: Several back-and-forth innings saw the Lady Coyotes narrowly fall in the day's first game.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, with CSI scoring a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Southern Nevada responded with four runs in the sixth inning, adding a single run in the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead. Southern Idaho broke CSN's hearts in the bottom half of the inning, finishing with three runs.
Caitlin Covington hit a three-run home run to highlight CSN's offensive performance, with
Bailey Pepper and
Kiana Young also hitting home runs. Southern Nevada had four extra-base hits.
Southern Idaho 17, Southern Nevada 11: An early CSN lead was unable to stand the test in game two of the doubleheader.
Southern Nevada took a dominating early lead, leading 10-4 after the third inning, before Southern Idaho responded with 13 runs in the next two innings to go on a 13-1 run. CSN hit three home runs in the game, with a
Bailey Pepper home run powering the Lady Coyote offense.
Liliana Gutierrez finished 3-of-4 at the plate, while
Caitlin Covington and
Kayley Cole went 2-of-3.
