Box Score 2 YUMA, AZ. (February 6, 2021) – A tournament in Arizona ended with a pair of losses for the College of Southern Nevada softball team on Saturday.
The Lady Coyotes were swept in a doubleheader, falling to Central Arizona for the second consecutive day, 10-2. CSN was also downed by Yavapai College, 9-7, to fall to 3-6 on the season.
Southern Nevada will take the field next on Friday, Feb. 19, as they host a preseason tournament for Scenic West Athletic Conference teams.
Central Arizona 10, Southern Nevada 2: A five-run fifth inning helped Central Arizona power to the victory.
CSN tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning and trailed 3-2 after the third inning before CAC went on a 7-0 scoring run in the next three innings. Maya Nishijima and
Kayley Cole both finished 1-of-3 at the plate, with
Kiana Young going 1-of-2 with an RBI.
Yavapai 9, Southern Nevada 7: A few big innings negated an early CSN lead, helping Yavapai power to the victory.
The Lady Coyotes powered to an early 3-0 lead midway through the second inning, a lead that Yavapai quickly eliminated by scoring seven runs over the next three innings. While Southern Nevada would post three runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6, Yavapai scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to finish off the win.
Bailey Pepper led CSN with a 2-of-4 performance at the plate, also finishing with a pair of RBI's.
