HENDERSON, Nev. (February 9, 2021) – The No. 20 College of Southern Nevada baseball team is clicking on all cylinders this week.
The Coyotes swept a doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern Community College in non-conference action Tuesday, earning a 10-3 victory in game one and a 12-2 win in game two. CSN is now 6-1 on the young season with the victories.
CSN and Colorado Northwestern will play the series finale on Wednesday, with a first-pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Morse Stadium.
Southern Nevada 10, Colorado Northwestern 3: A seven-run fifth inning helped CSN power past an early CNCC lead.
The Coyotes, trailing 3-2 entering the fifth inning, utilized a
Dax Fellows home run to open the inning and tie the game. From there,
Joseph Walls,
Johnny Cuevas and
Dom Bullard all hit RBI singles to up the CSN lead, with
Colby Smith's double later in the inning finishing off the Southern Nevada onslaught.
Cuevas went 2-of-3 at the plate and scored a pair of runs to lead CSN.
Joey Magrisi earned the pitching victory for Southern Nevada, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out six CNCC batters.
Southern Nevada 12, Colorado Northwestern 2: A pair of multi-run innings sent CSN to a run-rule victory to close the doubleheader.
Trailing 2-1 entering the third inning, Southern Nevada went on to score 11 runs combined in the next two frames, with a
Damiano Palmegiani two-run home run keying the offensive explosion. Other highlight at-bats included
Jacob Godman hitting a two-run single in the fourth inning and
Joseph Walls also hitting a two-run double in the third inning. Palmegiani hit a two-run double in the third inning, as well.
Both Palmegiani and Walls finished 2-of-3 at the plate, while Palmegiani finished with a team-high four RBI's. Walls scored three runs for the Coyotes.
Andrew Hauck earned the pitching victory, throwing three perfect innings and striking out six CNCC batters. Southern Nevada's defense committed no errors.
