HENDERSON, Nev. (March 19, 2021) – The momentum just keeps on building for the No. 16 College of Southern Nevada baseball team.
The Coyotes lifted to a doubleheader sweep against Colorado Northwestern Community College on Friday, earning victories of 10-0 and 12-2. Southern Nevada is now 19-6 overall and 6-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play with the wins.
CSN and CNCC will play a series-finale game on Saturday at Morse Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
Southern Nevada 10, Colorado Northwestern 0: A superb pitching outing helped CSN to the first win of the day.
Johnny Cuevas earned the pitching win for Southern Nevada, throwing a complete-game of five innings with 10 strikeouts. Cuevas was helped by CSN's offense, which produced 14 hits in the win.
The Coyotes started the scoring with a
Trey Frahm RBI single in the first inning, with Frahm adding an RBI double in the second inning to boost CSN to a 4-0 lead.
Damiano Palmegiani also had a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Joseph Walls finished 3-of-4 at the plate to lead CSN. The Coyotes had four players with multi-hit games.
Southern Nevada 12, Colorado Northwestern 2: A close second game turned around quickly thanks to an offensive outburst by CSN.
The Coyotes held a narrow 2-1 lead entering the fourth inning, with CSN's offense posting six runs in the bottom half of the frame to put the game out of question. A Palmegiani two-run home run lifted CSN to its early lead, with Southern Nevada later scoring five runs thanks to hit-by-pitch unearned runs.
Josh Swales earned the pitching win, surrendering just one earned run while striking out eight CNCC batters.
