HENDERSON, Nev. (April 10, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team split a home doubleheader Saturday.
CSN, hosting the College of Southern Idaho, finishing with a 17-3 loss in game one before responding with a 6-5 victory in game two. Southern Nevada is now 22-21 overall and 12-12 with the losses, finishing with a split in the series.
The Lady Coyotes will play a four-game series at Snow College next weekend.
Southern Idaho 17, Southern Nevada 3: A strong CSI performance at the plate sent the Lady Coyotes to a loss in the day's opening game.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning,
Caitlin Covington got the Lady Coyotes on the board with a two-run home run. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles scored 10 unanswered runs from there to take command.
Skyler Lauver scored on a wild pitch late in the game, but it proved to be too little to overcome the CSI lead.
Covington went 1-of-2 at the plate, while
Kayley Cole went 1-of-3 and scored a run.
Southern Nevada 6, Southern Idaho 5: The Lady Coyotes posted four runs in the first inning, setting the tone early in a comeback win.
Bailey Pepper's RBI single in the first inning tied the score at 2-2, with
Liliana Gutierrez scoring the go-ahead run on a walk.
Caitlin Covington later hit a solo home run in the second inning to power CSN's lead to 5-2. After Southern Idaho came back to tie the game, Chasity McKee had an RBI groundout to score
Kendall Menken for the late go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Covington went 1-of-2 in the game, scoring a pair of runs.
Serenity Jackson earned the pitching victory, throwing four innings of relief.
