No. 18 CSN Baseball downs USU Eastern in series opener

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 29, 2021) – The stakes are high for the No. 19 College of Southern Nevada baseball team, with the regular-season rapidly winding down.

CSN is firmly locked in a battle for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season crown, a title which the Coyotes are looking to retain amidst a battle with longtime rival Salt Lake Community College. Southern Nevada opened its second-to-last weekend series with momentum Thursday, downing USU Eastern by a score of 10-1. CSN is now 37-11 overall and 18-6 in Scenic West play.

It was USU Eastern who scored first in the game to take an early 1-0 lead, before Southern Nevada tied the game in the third inning on a Joseph Walls RBI single. The Coyotes took control of the game in the fifth inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Dax Fellows

CSN posted six runs in the sixth inning, with Walls hitting an RBI single and Trey Frahm hitting an RBI double. Fellows also had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the frame.

Walls was a team-best 3-of-4 at the plate, with Fellows posting a team-high four RBI's. Johnny Cuevas earned the pitching victory, striking out seven USU Eastern batters while pitching 6.2 innings.

Southern Nevada will host USU Eastern in a doubleheader on Friday. With Thursday's win, Southern Nevada is now 4-0 against USU Eastern on the season.
