HENDERSON, Nev. (April 30, 2021) – The No. 18 College of Southern Nevada baseball team had a strong Friday at home, downing USU Eastern in a doubleheader sweep.
The temperature wasn't the only warm item on hand at Morse Stadium, with the Coyotes' bats heating up in wins of 9-3 and 8-2. The victories lift Southern Nevada to 39-17 overall and 20-6 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
CSN will host USU Eastern in a series-finale on Saturday, looking for the series sweep. Saturday will also serve as the program's 'Sophomore Day'.
Southern Nevada 9, USU Eastern 3: CSN jumped out early, stretching out a 6-0 lead.
The Coyotes posted three runs in the first two innings, with a
Dax Fellows RBI single in the fourth inning stretching the lead to 6-0. USU Eastern made a comeback attempt before
Justin Olson slammed the door shut, hitting an RBI single.
Johnny Cuevas added an RBI double in the sixth inning.
CSN had four players with multi-hit games, with
Dax Fellows going 2-of-2 and a team-high three RBI's.
Joey Magrisi earned the pitching win, striking out nine batters in six innings.
Southern Nevada 8, USU Eastern 2: Late offense helped the Coyotes move to 3-0 in the series.
CSN scored three unearned runs to take a 3- 1 lead midway through the fourth inning, with
Damiano Palmegiani hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Palmegiani hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Palmegiani finished 2-of-4 at the plate, with four RBI's, while
Dax Fellows went 1-of-4.
Josh Swales earned the pitching win, posting 12 strikeouts in five innings.
