CSN Softball swept in Scenic West doubleheader at Salt Lake

TAYLORSVILLE, UT. (April 3, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team was swept in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader against the nation's top team Saturday.

Southern Nevada lost a pair of games to No. 1 Salt Lake, losing games of 9-8 and 14-5 to go to 1-3 against the Bruins in a weekend series. CSN is now 20-19 overall and 10-10 in Scenic West games.

The Lady Coyotes will return home to host Southern Idaho next weekend.

Salt Lake 9, Southern Nevada 8: The Lady Coyotes fell in game one, thanks to a walk-off hit by Salt Lake.

In a back-and-forth game, CSN rallied to take an 8-6 lead after Caitlin Covington hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning. Kayley Cole hit a solo home run in the third inning to open the scoring, while Jocelyn Shupp hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Covington led Southern Nevada at the plate, going 2-of-4 with a trio of RBI's.

Salt Lake 15, Southern Nevada 4: Early hits did little to help CSN in the final outcome.

The Lady Coyotes opened the game with a two-run home run by Lilana Gutierrez. Hannah Mearideth added a solo home run in the second inning, with Gutierrez adding another home run in the third inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. However, SLCC scored nine runs over the final two innings to close out the game.

Bailey Pepper was 3-of-3 at the plate to lead Southern Nevada, while Gutierrez was 2-of-3 with a trio of RBI's.
