HENDERSON, Nev. (April 9, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team split a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at home Friday.
The Lady Coyotes split the day's action with the College of Southern Idaho, earning a 6-5 win in game one before falling 5-2 in game two. CSN is now 21-20 overall with the day's results, posting a mark of 11-11 in the Scenic West.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play another doubleheader on Saturday at Lady Coyote Softball Field.
Southern Nevada 6, Southern Idaho 5: The Lady Coyotes took an early lead and fought off a late CSI rally.
Liliana Gutierrez hit an RBI single in the first inning, with
Kayley Cole hitting a two-run home run in the second inning to help the Lady Coyotes retake the lead. Cole later hit a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Cole led Southern Nevada with a 2-of-4 performance at the plate.
Codilyn Olds earned the pitching win, striking out three batters in a complete-game win.
Southern Idaho 5, Southern Nevada 2: An early CSN lead didn't hold up in the second game.
Kayley Cole scored an unearned run in the first inning to give CSN an early lead, with the Lady Coyotes retaking the lead in the fifth inning on a
Caitlin Covington RBI double. However, Southern Idaho scored four unanswered runs to claim the win.
Cole went 3-of-4, while Covington went 1-of-3.
