CSN Baseball splits Scenic West doubleheader at Salt Lake Friday

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 7, 2021) – The No. 17 College of Southern Nevada baseball team had an up-and-down day Friday, splitting a critical Scenic West Athletic Conference road doubleheader.

CSN split a pair of games with Salt Lake Community College, falling by a score of 6-4 before rebounding with an 11-10 win. With the split, CSN is now 42-12 overall and 23-7 in Scenic West play.

Southern Nevada will close the four-game series with Salt Lake on Saturday. The two teams will play for the Scenic West regular-season title on Saturday.

Salt Lake 6, Southern Nevada 4: A four-run fifth inning lifted the Bruins to a win in the opening game of the doubleheader.

It was Southern Nevada who posted the game's first run – a Trey Frahm RBI double in the first inning – before Salt Lake went on a run. CSN reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning, thanks to a Damiano Palmegiani RBI single and a Justin Olson RBI walk. Unfortunately, Salt Lake ralied to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Joseph Walls went 3-of-4 in the game to lead Salt Lake. Palmegiani and Frahm also had multi-hit games.

Southern Nevada 11, Salt Lake 10: A big Southern Nevada lead ended in a nail-biting win for the Coyotes.

Jacob Godman hit a three-run home run to open the offense for CSN in the opening inning, with Godman later adding a two-run double in the fifth inning. Trey Frahm added a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Johnny Cuevas posted an RBI double in the seventh inning. From there, CSN survived a rally that saw Salt Lake score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Godman and Frahm both went 2-of-4 in the series, with the former finishing with five RBI's. Zach Culver went 2-of-4 in the game, finishing with an RBI. Josh Swales earned the pitching win, posting an impressive 14 strikeouts.
