HENDERSON, Nev. (January 28, 2022) – The 2022 season is underway for the College of Southern Nevada Softball program, with the added benefit of it starting at home.
CSN opened its annual 'CSN Kickoff Classic Presented by Silver State Schools Credit Union' Friday, playing a trio of games against strong regional competition. CSN suffered a close 8-6 loss against Central Arizona in the day's first game, followed up by an 8-7 win against Eastern Arizona in the next game. The Lady Coyotes closed the day with a 10-4 loss to Arizona Western to close the tournament's first day.
Southern Nevada will play two more games Saturday, facing off against Trinidad State and South Mountain.
Central Arizona 8, Southern Nevada 6: A Central Arizona six-run inning late doomed CSN in the loss.
Southern Nevada held a 4-1 lead, prior to Central Arizona posting six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Kayley Cole went 3-of-3 at the plate to lead CSN also finishing with a pair of RBI's.
Southern Nevada 8, Eastern Arizona 7: CSN picked up its first win of the 2022 season in walk-off fashion.
Tied at 7-7 in the seventh inning,
Liliana Gutierrez had a walk-off sacrifice-fly to score
Mayu Nishijima, sending the Lady Coyotes to their first win of the season. CSN trailed 7-2 after the top of the third inning, scoring the game's last six runs.
Caitlin Covington went 4-of-4 at the plate, posting four RBI's. Covington also hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Codilyn Olds earned the pitching win for CSN, finishing with five strikeouts.
Arizona Western 10, Southern Nevada 4: Early offensive success did little to help the Lady Coyotes late.
Tied at 3-3 after the third inning, Arizona Western went on a 7-0 run to close out the game.
Liliana Gutierrez hit an RBI double in the first inning, followed up by
Jocelyn Shupp hitting an RBI double in the third inning to tie the game.
Shupp had a team-high two RBI's.
