HENDERSON, Nev. (February 20.2022) – The No. 14 College of Southern Nevada Baseball team closed off a weekend series in grand fashion Sunday, earning a doubleheader sweep.
CSN downed the Prairie Baseball Academy in a pair of games at Morse Stadium, earning victories of 9-2 and 11-1 to move to 4-0 in the series. The Coyotes are now 8-4 overall.
Southern Nevada will host a weekend series with Cochise College next weekend.
Southern Nevada 9, Prairie 2: Plenty of early CSN scoring lifted the Coyotes a strong win the first game of the day.
Southern Nevada scored seven runs in the first two innings, led by a two-run double by
Jackson Castillo and a
Bradley Stone home run in the second inning. Castillo added another RBI double in the sixth inning.
Castillo went 2-of-2 at the plate with a trio of RBI's, while Stone was 2-of-4 with a couple RBI's.
Austin Cates earned the pitching win, throwing three shutout innings while striking out three batters.
Southern Nevada 11, Prairie 1: Another barrage of scoring helped CSN earn the series sweep.
Scoreless after four innings, Southern Nevada claimed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a
Trey Frahm two-run home run.
Jackson Castillo hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, with
Zach Culver hitting a grand-slam home run later in the inning.
Culver was 2-of-2 at the plate, finishing with 5 RBI's. Castillo went 2-of-5, scoring a pair of runs and adding a pair of RBI's.
Jesus Gonzalez earned the pitching win, throwing five innings and finishing with eight strikeouts.
