HENDERSON, Nev. (March 19, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball team closed out a series sweep of a Scenic West Athletic Conference rival Saturday.
Playing at Lady Coyote Softball Field, CSN propelled to victories of 9-1 and 9-1 over Snow College, moving to 4-0 in the series. This is CSN's second league series sweep this season. The victory also moves the Lady Coyotes to 11-11 overall and 8-4 in Scenic West play.
Southern Nevada will host Salt Lake Community College in a four-game series next weekend.
Southern Nevada 9, Snow 1: A dominant performance from
Liliana Gutierrez lifted the Lady Coyotes to a run-rule victory.
After CSN scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead, CSN saw back-to-back-to-back home runs in the third inning. First,
Caitlin Covington hit a solo shot to left field, followed up by
Jocelyn Shupp doing the same. Gutierrez then blasted a ball to left field to lift CSN to a 5-1 lead.
Gutierrez added to her tally in the fourth inning with a two-run single, followed up by a walk-off RBI single in the fifth inning. She was a perfect 3-of-3 in the game, also posting 5 RBI's.
Shupp went 2-of3 at the plate, while Covington was 2-of-2.
Amber Triviso earned the pitching win, throwing a complete game and finishing with three strikeouts.
Southern Nevada 9, Snow 1: CSN picked up another run-rule victory in the day's second game.
Caitlin Covington started the offensive display early, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning to boost the Lady Coyotes to a 2-0 lead. Kenley Cole added an RBI double in the second inning, then
Liliana Gutierrez added an RBI single in the third inning.
CSN posted four runs to finish off the run-rule win in the fifth inning, with Covington hitting yet another two-run home run to start the rally. The game ended on a dropped third strike, with Gutierrez scoring the winning run.
Mayu Nishijima was a perfect 3-of-3 in the game, scoring three runs. Covington went 2-of-2, scoring three runs and finishing with four RBI's.
Serenity Jackson earned the pitching win, finishing with four strikeouts in the circle.
