HENDERSON, Nev. (March 25, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball team had a setback on Friday, falling in a doubleheader sweep to open a Scenic West Athletic Conference series.
CSN lost games of 10-2 and 11-10 to visiting Salt Lake Community College, opening the league series at 0-2. The losses also dropped the Lady Coyotes to 11-13 overall, alongside a league mark of 8-6.
Southern Nevada and Salt Lake will play another doubleheader on Saturday.
Salt Lake 10, Southern Nevada 2: A pair of early runs was all that CSN mustered in a run-rule loss.
Liliana Gutierrez hit a solo home run in the second inning, followed up by Kenley Cole posting an RBI double later in the inning to cut the SLCC lead to 6-2. Unfortunately, those would be the only runs CSN would score, with the Bruins limiting the Lady Coyotes to just five hits.
Amber Triviso suffered the pitching loss.
Salt Lake 11, Southern Nevada 10: Back-and-forth scoring ended in a heartbreaking defeat for the Lady Coyotes.
CSN held a 10-8 lead entering the seventh inning, thanks to the Lady Coyotes posting five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jocelyn Shupp hit a two-run double to open the scoring, then Southern Nevada scored a pair of unearned runs. SLCC then scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to post the win.
Caitlin Covington was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate to lead Southern Nevada. CSN had four players with multi-hit games.
