HENDERSON, Nev. (March 30, 2022) – Players come and go but transcendent athletes are rare in college sports.
Destiny Brown was a transcendent player for the College of Southern Nevada Women's Basketball team in the 2021-22 season. In just the program's second year, Brown led the Lady Coyotes to a mark of 14-17 overall and a record of 9-9 in the nationally-competitive Scenic West Athletic Conference.
In response to an outstanding 2021-22 season, the NJCAA named Brown to the organization's Division I Women's Basketball All-America Second Team on Tuesday. A freshman from Los Angeles, Brown averaged 16.6 points and 12.9 points a game for CSN.
Southern Nevada coach
Dan Savage said Brown is one of the most gifted athletes he's ever coached.
"Destiny has been a ray of sunshine since the first day that she stepped on campus," he said. "Her attitude, combined with her athletic ability, has been a joy to coach. Destiny proved that she was one of the top players in the country by averaging a double-double for the season. I am excited to see what the future holds for Destiny, and it has been a privilege to coach her this year.
"I call (Destiny) a 'unicorn' because it is not often that coaches get to work with an extremely talented player that is also a winner in the classroom. Over the past 28 years, I have been lucky enough to coach some amazing players and Destiny is close to the top of that list."
A member of the All-Region 18 First Team, Brown had a season-high 31 points in a January win over Colorado Northwestern, then posted 21 rebounds in a February win over Colorado Northwestern. The Westchester High School product earned multiple Scenic West 'Player-of-the-Week' awards during the season.
