HENDERSON, Nev. (April 1, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Baseball team moved to 2-1 in a Scenic West series on Friday, thanks to a doubleheader split.
CSN earned a victory of 12-2 and an 8-5 loss to split with USU Eastern in the day's games. The Coyotes are now 19-14 overall and 11-7 in Scenic West play.
The two teams will play the series finale at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Southern Nevada 12, USU Eastern 2: USU Eastern scored the game's first two runs, then never scored again in a run-rule win for the Coyotes.
Gavin Amelburu got the Coyotes on the board in the third inning with a two-run single, with
Austin Cates eventually hitting a three-run home run in the fourth inning to lift CSN to an 11-2 lead.
Mayze Mosher added an RBI single in the sixth inning.
Mosher went 2-of-4 in the game, while
Bradley Stone went 2-of-2. Cates also earned the pitching win, throwing six innings of two-run ball.
USU Eastern 8, Southern Nevada 5: USU Eastern jumped out to an early lead, never looking back.
The Eagles took a 5-0 lead after the third inning, stretching the advantage to 6-0 after the top of the sixth inning. CSN made a late comeback in the game but it was too little, too late.
Sayer Diederich went 3-of-3 at the plate to lead CSN, while
Ikaika Ganancial going 3-of-4.
