HENDERSON, Nev. (April 21, 2022) – A rare Thursday series opener did not go well for the College of Southern Nevada Softball team.
With inclement weather expected across the Intermountain West this weekend, CSN moved its series-opening doubleheader with Snow College to a Thursday tripleheader. Southern Nevada faced additional adversity on the field at Snow, opening the series with an 18-10 win, then falling in games of 13-8 and 7-6.
The Lady Coyotes and Lady Badgers will play another doubleheader to conclude the series on Friday.
Southern Nevada 18, Snow 10: An 11-run third inning lifted the Lady Coyotes to a breakaway win on Thursday to open a three-game series.
Trailing 1-0 after two innings, CSN posted 11 runs in the third inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. Southern Nevada had 15 hits in the win, finishing with 18 RBI's.
Liliana Gutierrez hit a pair of home runs, while
Caitlin Covington also contributed a home run. Covington was 3-of-5 in the game.
Snow 13, Southern Nevada 8: Snow College scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to devastate CSN.
Southern Nevada had built a 6-0 lead midway through the second inning, eventually boosting to 8-1 after the fourth inning. CSN was keyed by a pair of home runs – a
Liliana Gutierrez shot in the first inning, then a
Kayley Cole home run in the second inning.
Cole,
McKenzie Hamilton and
Caitlin Covington all had multi-hit performances for CSN.
Amber Triviso took the pitching loss.
Snow 7, Southern Nevada 6: A late Lady Coyotes comeback attempt fell short in the day's second game.
Liliana Gutierrez jumpstarted a seventh inning comeback with an RBI double, with
Jocelyn Shupp also adding a single. CSN had jumped out to a 1-0 lead, prior to Snow scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Caitlin Covington went 3-of-4 in the game to lead Southern Nevada.
