HENDERSON, Nev. (April 29, 2022) – The heat of the Southern Nevada desert was matched by the play of the College of Southern Nevada Baseball team Friday.
CSN earned a doubleheader sweep over Colorado Northwestern Friday, with the Coyotes earning wins of 5-1 and 2-0. The victories lifted Southern Nevada to 30-20 overall and 22-13 in Scenic West play, also giving the Coyotes a mark of 3-0 in the series.
Southern Nevada and Colorado Northwestern will play a series finale on Saturday.
Southern Nevada 5, Colorado Northwestern 1: An early home run and a standout performance by
Jackson Castillo pushed the Coyotes to a big win.
Castillo hit a solo home run in the first inning, helping Southern Nevada to a 2-0 lead. Castillo then hit another solo home run in the third inning, adding an RBI single in the fourth inning.
The freshman from San Diego, Calif., went 3-of-4 at the plate, finishing with 3 RBI's to lead the Coyotes.
Kris Bow earned the pitching win, throwing five innings and finishing with nine strikeouts.
Southern Nevada 2, Colorado Northwestern 0: CSN utilized what offense it could find in a close victory.
Mayze Mosher hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Coyotes an early lead, then
Gavin Amelburu had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the sixth inning to help CSN find some breathing room. Southern Nevada had only seven hits in the win.
Ikaika Ganancial went 2-of-3 to lead the Coyotes at the plate.
Calvin Marley earned the pitching victory, throwing 4.1 innings and finishing with two strikeouts.
