HENDERSON, Nev. (May 6, 2022) – The start of a Scenic West Athletic Conference home doubleheader went the way of the College of Southern Nevada Softball team Friday.
CSN won a pair of decisions against USU Eastern at Lady Coyote Softball Field, winning games of 6-3 and 20-0. The wins moved CSN to 2-4 on the season against USU Eastern, also moving the Lady Coyotes to 22-26 overall. Southern Nevada is now 19-19 in Scenic West games.
Southern Nevada and USU Eastern will play another doubleheader on Saturday. Saturday's pregame festivities will include CSN's 'Sophomore Day' celebration.
Southern Nevada 6, USU Eastern 3: A late rally helped the Lady Coyotes to a victory in the day's first game.
CSN trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, responding with five runs to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Hannah Mearideth started the scoring with an RBI single, followed up by
Kayley Cole hitting a two-run double.
Mayu Nishijima also added a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Jocelyn Shupp hit a solo home run for Southern Nevada in the sixth inning.
Nishijima went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Coyotes.
Amber Triviso pitched a complete-game victory, allowing three runs and throwing six strikeouts in seven innings.
Southern Nevada 20, USU Eastern 0: A 12-run third inning gave CSN its most dominant victory of the season.
Scoring for Southern Nevada started early, with
Kayley Cole and
Caitlin Covington both hitting home runs in the first inning. Covington then added a three-run home run in the third inning, then posted an RBI single in the same frame.
Covington finished the game going 3-of-4 at the plate with 6 RBI's.
Codilyn Olds earned the pitching win, throwing five scoreless innings.
