HENDERSON, Nev. (January 23, 2023) – It is time for baseball season.
 
Southern Nevada will open its 2023 season in a home tournament this week, playing host to the annual 'Manny Guerra Memorial Coyote Border Battle – Presented by Johnny Mac's Sports Bar & Grill'. CSN will play a variety of nationally-competition programs in the tournament, playing Central Arizona and Arizona Western.
 
Coyotes coach Nick Garritano said his program is looking forward to the competition it has ahead in the tournament.
 
"This is always a great tournament to start the season with," he said. "Central Arizona and Arizona Western are very good clubs that will require us to play a great brand of baseball to be successful.  This being the 'Manny Guerra Memorial Tournament', we feel honored to be able to host a tourney with his name attached.  As much as Manny did for the local baseball community, this is the least we can do to repay him for all of his efforts."
 
Hosting tournaments is a grueling task but it certainly has benefits. To start, CSN is able to start its season at home, also using the tournament as a beneficial fundraiser.
 
"Hosting a tournament is not an easy task for anyone that works in our athletic department," noted Garritano. "There are very long days that require at times 16-18 hour days to operate this tourney. Hosting this tournament gives the program a chance to raise a little bit of money through our ticketing sales, and also serves host to some of the best baseball on the West Coast. We would like to thank everyone involved in running this tournament in advance."
 
Southern Nevada will open the tournament with a doubleheader against Central Arizona on Friday. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Morse Stadium.
