HENDERSON, Nev. (January 27, 2023) – The 2023 season is officially underway for the College of Southern Nevada Baseball team.
CSN opened its 2023 campaign at home, hosting No. 1 Central Arizona Friday, part of the 'Manny Guerra Memorial Coyote Border Battle – Presented by Johnny Mac's Sports Bar & Grill'. Southern Nevada posted an early upset win in the season, downing Central Arizona, 4-3, in a nine-inning thriller.
Central Arizona started well, taking a 3-0 lead after the third inning. Southern Nevada started its response in the fourth inning, with
Jackson Castillo hitting a solo home run to get on the board.
Trey Frahm added a solo home run in the seven inning to cut the deficit to 3-2, then
Bradley Stone tied the game in the eighth inning on an RBI single.
Gavin Amelburu posted the game-winning hit on an RBI bunt later in the frame, scoring
Marcos Carrasco.
Frahm finished 2-of-3 at the plate to lead CSN.
Izzy Gutierrez earned the win in relief, while starter
Austin Cates threw 6.2 innings and had 5 strikeouts.
Southern Nevada will play a doubleheader in the tournament Saturday, facing off against Central Arizona and Arizona Western.
