HENDERSON, Nev. (January 28, 2023) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball team had a successful conclusion to its home tournament Saturday.
CSN closed the final day of play in the 'CSN Kickoff Classic: Presented by Silver State School Credit Union, earning a 12-10 win against Central Arizona. The Lady Coyotes then posted an 11-9 loss against Pima Community College, closing with a 13-0 win with Glendale Community College. The Lady Coyotes are now 4-2 overall.
Southern Nevada will play a series of games next weekend in the 'Great Western Shootout' in Arizona.
Southern Nevada 12, Central Arizona 10: A display of offense ended with a narrow Lady Coyotes win.
Caitlin Covington hit a go-ahead, two-run double to give CSN its first lead of the game. Southern Nevada trailed 10-6 entering the inning.
Hannah Mearideth was 3-of-3 in the game to lead the Lady Coyotes.
Laynee Anzalone earned the pitching win, throwing three innings of no-hit relief.
Pima 11, Southern Nevada 9: A Southern Nevada comeback attempt came up short in a loss to Pima.
Pima jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, prior to Kailtyn Farrar hitting a two-run double in the second inning. Pima then scored six unanswered runs to take a lead it wouldn't surrender, in spite of Southern Nevada scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Cynthia Avilar went 3-of-4 at the plate to lead CSN. Farrar was 2-of-3 with three RBI's.
Southern Nevada 13, Glendale 0: CSN was dominant in a run-rule win over Glendale to close the tournament.
Mia Elicerio hit a two-run double to jumpstart CSN, part of the Lady Coyotes taking a 5-0 run after the first inning. Wendy Van Wilk added a three-run home run in the third inning to boost the lead to 12-0.
Kayley Cole was a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate.
Mia Flores earned the pitching win, spreading out seven hits over five innings.
