HENDERSON, Nev. (February 11, 2023) – The College of Southern Nevada Baseball team had a bump in the road disrupt its strong run through the preseason Saturday, getting swept in a doubleheader by South Mountain Community College.
Southern Nevada fell in losses of 12-4 and 9-5 in a doubleheader at Morse Stadium, splitting the series, 2-2. CSN is now 8-4 overall.
The Coyotes will host a four-game series with Prairie Baseball Academy next weekend.
South Mountain 12, Southern Nevada 4: It was CSN who took an early lead, only to fall late.
The Coyotes held an early lead, taking a 3-1 advantage in the second inning on a
Jackson Castillo RBI single. South Mountain then responded with 11 unanswered runs to take a dominant lead.
Hunter Katschke had an RBI single In the sixth inning but it proved to be too little, too late.
Gavin Amelburu went 2-of-4 to lead Southern Nevada.
Austin Cates earned the pitching loss.
South Mountain 9, Southern Nevada 5: SMCC built an early lead it never relinquished in the doubleheader finale.
South Mountain led 6-0 midway through the sixth inning, prior to CSN making a comeback attempt.
Austin Cates hit an RBI single to center to start the Coyotes rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, with
Jack Hale hitting a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 9-4.
Hunter Katschke had an RBI double in the ninth inning but the rally fell short for Southern Nevada.
Hale went 2-of-2 at the plate, finishing with three RBI's and a pair of walks.
Gavin Mez was 2-of-3.
