HENDERSON, Nev. (February 18, 2023) – The College of Southern Nevada Baseball team continued its preseason success Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader with a Canadian club team.
CSN is playing host to the Prairie Baseball Academy, a respected Canadian program, for a four-game series, with single games on Sunday and Monday. The Coyotes opened the series with wins of 14-0 and 15-1, moving to 10-4 overall.
Southern Nevada will host Prairie in a single game Sunday.
Southern Nevada 14, Prairie 0: A fast start lifted the Coyotes to a dominant win to open the series.
Southern Nevada scored eight runs in the first inning, with
Jackson Castillo hitting a two-run home run in the frame and
Garrison Geis hitting a two-run double. CSN posted 15 hits in the win.
Castillo went 2-of-2 to lead CSN, posting a pair of RBI's and walks.
Austin Cates had a 2-of-3 performance, while Geis went 3-of-3 and scored a trio of runs.
Evan Bunevich earned the pitching win, allowing no hits and finishing with four strikeouts.
Southern Nevada 15, Prairie 1: A pair of big innings powered CSN to the victory, along with the doubleheader sweep.
CSN posted six runs in the first inning and nine runs in the fifth inning, with
Jesus Peraza hitting a two-run triple in the fifth inning.
Gavin Mez added a two-run single in the fifth inning. The Coyotes had 14 hits in the game.
Mez went 2-of-3 with a trio of RBI's, while
Mikey Cruz, Jr., also went 2-of-3. Castillo was 2-of-3 with a pair of RBI's.
Austin Cates threw four strikeouts in his start, earning the win.
