HENDERSON, Nev. (March 10, 2023) – A Friday doubleheader between longtime Scenic West Athletic Conference rivals ended in a Southern Nevada sweep.
No. 19 CSN started its weekend series with Southern Idaho, sweeping the doubleheader with wins of 5-1 and 8-1. The day's tally moves CSN to 16-6 overall and 4-2 in Scenic West games.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play another doubleheader Saturday.
Southern Nevada 5, Southern Idaho 1: 'Small ball' ruled the day as timely baserunning and hitting led the Coyotes to a win.
CSN took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs on CSI throwing errors.
Austin Cates also hit an RBI single in the frame. The Coyotes also scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning.
Cates went 2-of-3 at the plate in the win.
Josh Johnson threw eight strikeouts in the pitching victory.

Southern Nevada took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with
Austin Cates hitting a two-run single.
Hunter Katschke hit an RBI double in the fifth inning, starting a rally of four runs scoring in the frame.
Both Cates and Katschke finished 3-of-5 at the plate, with
Evan Bunevich earning the pitching. Bunevich, who is now 5-0, threw eight innings and had nine strikeouts.
