HENDERSON, Nev. (March 11, 2023) – A Saturday sweep was the story in the closing doubleheader of a Scenic West Athletic Conference series in Southern Nevada.
CSN, playing host to No. 12 Southern Idaho, was swept in the finale of the series, finishing with losses of 15-4 and 8-6. The results leave the Lady Coyotes with a 13-9 overall record, alongside a mark of 5-3 in league play.
Southern Nevada will play at Snow College next weekend.
Southern Idaho 15, Southern Nevada 4: CSN fell behind early and never recovered in a run-rule loss.
Southern Idaho jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the second inning, eventually building the lead to 12-1 midway through the fourth inning. Southern Nevada had its highlights, be it a
Caitlin Covington home run in the third inning or a
Taylor Hendricks RBI double in the fourth inning, but it proved to be too little to overcome the CSI advantage.
Covington went 2-of-2 in the game to lead the Lady Coyotes. Hendricks also went 2-of-3.
Southern Idaho 8, Southern Nevada 6: A fast start by the Lady Coyotes didn't hold up to a strong Southern Idaho close.
CSN took a 2-0 lead after the first inning, thanks to a
Kayley Cole home run and
Mia Elicerio RBI single.
Caitlin Covington then hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, with Cole also hitting an RBI double to boost Southern Nevada to a 6-3 lead. Unfortunately, two home runs and an RBI double in the sixth-and-seventh innings lifted Southern Idaho to the win.
The Lady Coyotes were led by Cole, who finished 3-of-4 and also scored two runs. Covington went 2-of-4.
