HENDERSON, Nev. (March 25, 2023) – Times are good for the No. 16 CSN Baseball team.
The Coyotes closed out yet another Scenic West Athletic Conference series sweep at home Saturday, earning victories of 4-3 and 15-0 over Colorado Northwestern to move to 26-6 overall. The victory also adds to CSN's lead in the Region 18 standings, with the Coyotes sitting at 14-2 in league play.
CSN is scheduled to finally hit the road in league play next year, opening at USU Eastern with a doubleheader on Friday.
Southern Nevada 4, Colorado Northwestern 3: The Coyotes earned a walk-off win to start the day's play.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, CSN scored a run to earn the win.
Mikey Cruz, Jr., posted a pair of RBI's in the win, helping Southern Nevada take a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Katschke went 2-of-4 in the win.
Jesus Gonzalez threw five innings in a no-decision start, while
Stephen Klenske earned the pitching win in relief.
Southern Nevada 15, Colorado Northwestern 0: CSN never flinched offensively in a run-rule victory to close out the series.
Southern Nevada started hot as
Jackson Castillo hit a two-run home run in the second inning, giving the Coyotes a 5-0 lead after two innings. CSN then posted ten runs in the fourth innings, with highlights ranging from a
Hunter Katschke RBI triple to an
Austin Cates RBI double. Cates also contributed a two-run single in the inning.
Cates and Katschke were both 3-of-3 in the win, with Cates posting four RBI's. Castillo was 2-of-3.
Lucas Boesen earned the pitching win, throwing three innings and posting five strikeouts in a no-hit performance.
