PRICE, UT. (March 31, 2023) – The No. 14 CSN Baseball team earned a strong result on the road Friday.
Southern Nevada opened a Scenic West series at USU Eastern with a sweep, earning victories of 12-2 and 3-2. The victories lift the Coyotes to 28-6 overall and 12-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games.
CSN and USU Eastern will play another doubleheader Saturday.
Southern Nevada 12, USU Eastern 2: A fast start lifted the Coyotes to a strong win in the series opener.
CSN took a 5-0 lead midway through the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from
Hunter Katschke and an RBI single from
Nick Garritano.
Jack Hale and Katschke then added two-run doubles in the fifth inning to boost the lead to 12-1.
Garritano and Katschke both went 2-of-3 in the game, while Castillo went 2-of-4.
Austin Cates earned the pitching win, throwing four innings and posting six strikeouts.
Southern Nevada 3, USU Eastern 2: Late heroics broke an extra-innings tie, giving Southern Nevada the win.
Tied at 1-1 in the third inning,
Bradley Stone hit a solo home run to give CSN the lead. After USU Eastern then tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning,
Hunter Katschke hit a solo home run in the tenth inning to give the Coyotes an advantage they would hang onto.
Katschke was 2-of-5 in the win.
Evan Bunevich had a no-decision in his start, posting five strikeouts.
