HENDERSON, Nev. (March 28, 2023) – A Tuesday doubleheader ended in a pair of tough defeats for the CSN Softball team.
Southern Nevada dropped games of 12-6 and 15-5 to No. 16 Salt Lake, getting swept in the series. CSN is now 15-15 overall and 7-9 in Scenic West play after the defeats.
The Lady Coyotes will host USU Eastern in a weekend series. Friday's games start at 1:00 p.m. at Lady Coyote Softball Field.
Salt Lake 12, Southern Nevada 6: An early CSN lead didn't hold up as the Bruins went on to the win.
After Salt Lake scored two runs in the opening frame, the Lady Coyotes scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead after the second inning.
Caitlin Covington had an RBI double to open the rally, while
Cynthia Alvillar hit an RBI single in the second inning.
SLCC then retook the lead, posting an 8-4 advantage in the fourth inning. Southern Nevada cut the deficit to 8-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning, prior to SLCC's Lyndsey Madrigal hitting a solo home run to close the game.
Kayley Cole went 3-of-4 to lead CSN in the game, while
Mia Flores had three RBI's.
Laynee Anzalone earned the pitching loss.
Salt Lake 15, Southern Nevada 5: A back-and-forth affair ended in a run-rule win for Salt Lake.
CSN and SLCC traded scoring early with the Lady Coyotes cutting the deficit to 5-3 in the third inning after a solo home run by
Cynthia Alvillar. Salt Lake scored ten runs in the last two innings.
Wendy Van Wiljk was 1-of-1 with a pair of RBI's, while Alvillar was 1-of-2 and scored a pair of runs.
