HENDERSON, Nev. (April 1, 2023) – The No. 14 College of Southern Nevada Baseball team finished a road series in a mixed way Saturday, posting a split.
CSN earned a 3-1 series victory over USU Eastern, posting a 3-2 loss and a 7-2 victory in a Scenic West Athletic Conference series. The Coyotes are now 29-7 overall and 13-3 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games, maintaining a lead in the league standings.
Southern Nevada will continue its road swing through Utah next week, traveling to play at Salt Lake.
USU Eastern 3, Southern Nevada 2: Late USU Eastern heroics led to Southern Nevada heartbreak in the day's first game.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, CSN didn't score until the seventh inning, with
Jackson Castillo hitting a solo home run to get the Coyotes on the board.
Gavin Mez also had an RBI single in the frame. Unfortunately, Southern Nevada had a walk-off hit in the eighth inning.
Castillo and Mez both went 2-of-4 at the plate, while
Bradley Stone was 2-of-3.
Jesus Gonzalez earned a no-decision in the start, throwing nine strikeouts.
Southern Nevada 7, USU Eastern 2: A strong start lifted CSN to a win in the series finale.
With the Coyotes leading 1-0 in the second inning,
Nick Garritano had an RBI double, eventually scoring on a USU Eastern balk. Southern Nevada scored another pair of runs in the fifth inning, while
Hunter Katschke hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cap the scoring.
Katschke went 3-of-4 in the game, while
Garrison Geis and
Nick Garritano both went 2-of-4 in the win.
Josh Johnson earned the pitching win, throwing four innings.
