Lady Coyotes split with Southern Idaho

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Nev. (April 14, 2023) – Another week of Scenic West road games against a highly-touted foe started slowly for the College of Southern Nevada Softball team.
 
The Lady Coyotes opened a four-game series at Southern Idaho with a mixed session, falling 8-5 and then earning an 11-3 win in the games. Southern Nevada is now 2-4 on the year against CSI, moving to 19-18 overall.
 
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play again Saturday.
 
Southern Idaho 8, Southern Nevada 5: An early CSN lead didn't hold up as the game went on.
 
Southern Nevada took a 3-0 lead to open the first inning, with Mia Flores hitting a three-run shot to right field. CSI would come back to take the lead in the third inning, starting a back-and-forth shuffle in the middle innings.
 
Flores hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, then Wendy Van-Wijk tied the game with an RBI single in the sixth inning. CSI retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, holding on for the advantage.
 
Flores went 2-of-4 with four RBI's to lead Southern Nevada. 
 
Southern Nevada 11, Southern Idaho 3: A fast start lifted the Lady Coyotes to a thrilling victory. 
 
Kenley Cole and Caitlin Covington both hit home runs in the first inning, with the Lady Coyotes holding a 4-0 lead after two innings. Cole and Covington again hit home runs in the fourth inning, with Wendy Van-Wijk hitting a bomb to right center in the same frame.
 
Cynthia Alvillar went 3-of-3 in the game, while Cole was 3-of-4. Covington went 2-of-4 with four RBI's. Madison McDowell earned the pitching win.
