HENDERSON, Nev. (April 15, 2023) – Another critical weekend in Scenic West Athletic Conference play opened with a split result for the Southern Nevada Baseball team.
The No. 14 CSN Baseball team traveled north on I-15 once again this weekend, traveling to play a series at Southern Idaho. Southern Nevada split the doubleheader, falling 4-3 in a loss before responding with a 19-7 win to move to 33-9 overall. The Coyotes also hold the Scenic West lead at 17-5 in league play.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play another doubleheader Sunday.
Southern Idaho 4, Southern Nevada 3: Southern Nevada couldn't overcome CSI's second inning scoring in a loss to open the series.
Gavin Geis had an RBI sac fly in the first inning to give Southern Nevada the lead, with Southern Idaho then responding with three runs in the second inning.
Mikey Cruz, Jr., added a two-run single in the fifth inning but it was too little, too late.
Southern Nevada 19, Southern Idaho 7: Offense galore helped the Coyotes salvage a split in doubleheader finale.
Southern Nevada scored eight runs in the second inning alone, posting 17 hits in the win. CSN had three home runs in the win, six extra-base hits, and eight players post hits in the victory. Highlight moments include
Jackson Castillo's two-run home run in the sixth inning, followed up by
Bradley Stone's three-run shot in the seventh inning.
Castillo went 3-of-6 in the win, posting three RBI's. Stone was 2-of-2, finishing with four RBI's and scoring four runs.
Jesus Gonzalez posted the victory on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings and finishing with 10 strikeouts.
