No. 15 Coyotes roll to Saturday sweep

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 6, 2023) – The regular season closed exactly as desired for the No. 15 Southern Nevada Baseball team. 
 
CSN closed out its 2023 regular season campaign with a doubleheader sweep over USU Eastern, earning victories of 6-2 and 18-1. The Coyotes ended the regular season at 40-12 overall and 24-8 in Scenic West play.
 
Southern Nevada has clinched hosting rights in the upcoming Region 18 championships, running from May 10-12 at Morse Stadium in Henderson. 
 
Southern Nevada 6, USU Eastern 2: CSN was on the board early and never looked back.
 
Gavin Mez hit an RBI single in the third inning, with Mikey Cruz, Jr., hitting a two-run single in the sixth inning. Mez also hit an RBI triple in the sixth inning.
 
Mez went 4-of-4 in the game, with CSN posting 10 hits in the win. Evan Bunevich earned the pitching win, throwing 1.1 innings in relief. 
 
Southern Nevada 18, USU Eastern 1: Southern Nevada scored 10 runs in the first inning, controlling the tempo in a run-rule win.
 
Jackson Castillo hit a solo home run to start CSN's offense, with the Coyotes hitting 13 extra-base hits. Kyle Kiernan hit three doubles, with Gavin Amelburu hitting two doubles. 
 
Hunter Katschke earned the pitching win.
