CSN Men’s Soccer Battles to 3-3 Draw Against Arizona Western in Exciting Match

North Las Vegas, NV – The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-3 draw against conference leaders Arizona Western College (AWC) on October 19, 2024, at the Cheyenne Sports Complex. CSN's record now stands at 3-8-2 overall and 3-5-2 in conference play, while Arizona Western remains undefeated in conference action at 10-1-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the conference.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams exchanging goals and momentum in a physical contest that saw several yellow cards issued. CSN started the match strongly, opening the scoring in the 14th minute when Walter Ochoa found the back of the net with a clinical finish off a well-placed assist from Orlando Zurita.

Arizona Western responded quickly, equalizing in the 19th minute when Giulio Mapessa finished a pass from Ebenezer Laryea to level the match at 1-1. The Coyotes, however, regained their lead in the 30th minute when Sebastian Puentes scored a beautiful goal assisted by Angel Morales, putting CSN up 2-1.

The lead was short-lived as Arizona Western struck back in the 35th minute through Peter Yaro, who capitalized on an assist from Klidi Stermolli to bring the score to 2-2. Both teams continued to create chances, but the score remained tied heading into halftime.

In the second half, Arizona Western began to apply more pressure, and Mapessa scored his second goal of the match in the 81st minute to give AWC a 3-2 lead. With time running out, CSN refused to back down. Just two minutes later, in the 83rd minute, Joshua Elicerio scored a crucial equalizer for the Coyotes, assisted by Ochoa, to bring the match to 3-3.

CSN goalkeeper Anthony Pena, who replaced John William Oberes at halftime, made five key saves in the second half to keep Arizona Western from pulling ahead further. The Coyotes' defense, led by Carlos Galicia-Rivera, held strong despite Arizona Western's relentless attack, which produced 20 total shots, 10 of which were on target.

Scoring Summary:

CSN finished the match with 11 shots, 5 of which were on target, while Arizona Western tallied 20 shots with 10 on target. Both teams committed numerous fouls, with 25 fouls and several yellow cards for Arizona Western and 9 fouls for CSN.
