In a closely contested battle at Morse Stadium, the College of Southern Nevada faced a tough defeat against South Mountain Community College in a low-scoring affair that ended with a score of 1-0.
From the first pitch, both teams exhibited strong defensive performances, with pitchers from both sides dominating the game. The matchup remained deadlocked until the top of the ninth inning when South Mountain managed to break the scoreless tie, scoring the only run of the game.
The lone run came after a series of strategic plays by South Mountain, culminating in a wild pitch that allowed J. Terranova, who was pinch-running for N. Rosell, to cross home plate, giving South Mountain a crucial late-game lead.
Despite the late rally from South Mountain, the College of Southern Nevada fought hard until the final out. In the bottom of the ninth, Southern Nevada attempted to mount a comeback. However, South Mountain's defense held firm, preventing any runs from scoring and securing the victory.
The standout performers for South Mountain included pitcher C. Mata, who delivered a stellar performance on the mound, allowing no runs and only one hit over three innings of work. Additionally, J. Terranova's aggressive baserunning proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the winning run in the ninth inning.
On the other side, the College of Southern Nevada put up a strong defensive effort, led by pitcher Naun. Haro, who pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing only one hit while striking out eight batters. Despite the loss, Haro's performance was a bright spot for Southern Nevada.
With this loss, the College of Southern Nevada's record falls to 3-7Â for the season. Despite the setback, the team remains focused on regrouping and bouncing back stronger in the games to come.
