College of Southern Nevada Softball Showcases Dominance and Resilience in Doubleheader Against Colorado Northwestern

Rangely, CO – April 20, 2024The College of Southern Nevada's (CSN) softball team displayed a commanding presence on the field with a dominant 21-5 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern. Despite a challenging second game where they fell 5-1, the team's performance highlighted their offensive strength and resilience.

Game 1: Offensive Fireworks Lead to Decisive Victory

In the first game, CSN's hitters put on an impressive display, racking up 21 runs on 19 hits. The game was effectively decided by the fourth inning, where CSN exploded for 11 runs, showcasing their depth and power at the plate. Key performers included Camryn Hunkins, who notched three hits and two RBIs, and Sierra Hoyt, who added substantial firepower with two doubles and three RBIs.

Mia Elicerio was a standout with three hits and two RBIs, contributing to the team's robust offensive output. The team demonstrated excellent plate discipline, drawing nine walks, which helped sustain rallies and pressure on Colorado Northwestern's pitchers.

Pitching for CSN was solid with Bryn Connors starting the game and providing three innings of four-run ball before Amber Parks closed out the final innings, allowing just one additional run. This combination kept Colorado Northwestern at bay while CSN's offense did the heavy lifting.

Game 2: A Tough Battle with Missed Opportunities

The second game of the day presented more challenges for CSN, with the team only managing to scrape together one run on seven hits. The lone run came in the second inning when Ellie Olson drove in a run with a hit after Emma Olson was hit by a pitch. This would be CSN's only run as Colorado Northwestern's pitcher, K. Gull, kept CSN hitters in check throughout the game.

CSN's defense struggled with an error that proved costly in a game where every run was critical. Starting pitcher London Lamb went five innings, giving up five runs on five hits, including a crucial home run that widened the gap for Colorado Northwestern.

Despite the tough loss, CSN showed resilience and fought hard until the last out. The game underscored the importance of capitalizing on scoring opportunities, especially in tightly contested matches.

The doubleheader split demonstrated CSN's potential and areas for improvement. The first game was a reminder of how potent the team's offense could be when firing on all cylinders. In contrast, the second game provided valuable lessons in maintaining focus and execution under pressure.

As the season progresses, CSN is focused on building consistency and continuing to refine their skills on both offense and defense. With the heart and talent displayed in today's games, CSN is optimistic about their prospects for the rest of the season.
