Tough Night on the Road: Lady Coyotes Stumble Against Cochise College, 86-60

Douglas AZ- In a challenging away game on January 15, 2025, the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes faced a tough opponent in Cochise College, falling with a final score of 60-86. The game, held at Cochise College, saw the Coyotes struggling to find their rhythm against a strong Cochise defense and efficient offense.

The game began closely contested, with CSN managing to keep the score tight in the first quarter, trailing just slightly at 17-20. The initial phases saw some solid play from CSN, but Cochise began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring CSN 22-17 to establish a lead that would only grow as the game progressed.

As the game moved into the second half, CSN found it increasingly difficult to penetrate Cochise's defense. The third and fourth quarters saw Cochise College capitalizing on every opportunity, extending their lead with 19 and 25 points respectively, compared to CSN's 11 and 15.

CSN Player Highlights:

  • Kayla Terry was a notable performer for CSN, despite the tough game conditions. She scored 11 points and was effective on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds. Her effort on defense was commendable with 1 steal.
  • Trysta Barrett provided a spark off the bench, scoring 14 points, including 4 three-pointers out of 5 attempts, which was a game-high for CSN.
  • Selina Gutierrez contributed 10 points. While she struggled with shooting from the field, she was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 4 of her attempts.
  • Adrienne Puletasi and Braelyn Kauhi each added 8 points. Puletasi also grabbed 6 rebounds, contributing significantly in limited minutes.
  • Saroiya Ajomale, usually a reliable scorer, found it tough going against Cochise's defense, managing only 8 points on 3-17 shooting.

CSN shot 31.0% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc, which reflected their struggle to find consistent scoring opportunities. The team did better from the free-throw line, hitting 70.8% of their shots.

This game was a tough lesson for CSN as they faced a team that challenged them in all aspects of the game. Cochise's ability to convert turnovers into points and dominate the paint was key to their victory. CSN will need to regroup and focus on improving their ball handling and shot selection in future games.

The Coyotes look forward to their next game, aiming to bounce back with a stronger defensive effort and more efficient offensive play.
